Joaquin Poblete is a blogger based out of Los Angeles, CA. The first CD that he stole was The Beatle’s Red Album; the first CD that he bought was Third Eye Blind’s eponymous debut. Before that, he recalls having some cassette tapes, the earliest and most worn being a mix tape that prominently featured Richard Marx’s “Right Here Waiting.” An anonymous caller once left him a voicemail comprised only of the aforementioned Marx’s smash hit “Hold On to the Night.” He thinks it was a wrong number. He keeps a Microsoft Word document of every mix he’s ever made anyone, ever, but has been officially retired from making mixes since early 2003. He doesn’t know why he’s divulging trite, even slightly embarrassing details about his (musical) life, but it probably has to do with the trite, slightly embarrassing act of writing an “About” section about ones self.

Singing in My Sleep is a music blog. Unlike other music blogs though, it will not feature leaks of the new Radiohead album, snarky comments about what Vampire Weekend is up to, or humorous excerpts of Kanye West’s blog. Mainly, the content of this blog will be personal essay pieces and features along with original art. The content of the blog can be separated into the following categories:

Songs: The bulk of the blog will be made up of personal essays about specific songs (a la Nick Hornby’s 31 Songs). These pieces will be of varying length and (most probably) quality, but I will only write about songs I enjoy on at least some level. No Hatearade here, folks (at least not in this category - I’m sure some form of Haterade will find its way to the site).

Dispatches: Usually more journalistic pieces written for other outlets about bands, concerts, music related films, movements, or figures in the recording industry. They may have been written recently or in the very recent past. They may have been written for other blogs, journals, or, occasionally for a class at the blogger’s East Coast liberal arts/communications college so that he could leave higher education with a minor in writing.

What You’re Listening To: These are makeshift interviews with people who are anywhere in the world where blogger may find someone 1) wearing a pair of headphones  and 2) willing to stand and talk to him briefly about  whatever it is they are listening to on their headphones.

Lists: Time tested music geekery on display through the use of bulleted or numbered lists. Sometimes it may just be a list. Sometimes the lists will comprise of various smaller pieces that will add up over time.
Comics: Comic strips about certain songs or bands. All natural. All original. All black and white.

Announcements: Any sort of official site business or announcements to keep everything tidy. Usually boring in nature.
